Watch the recordings of the first and last presentations.\\n\\nAbout Life Science Lunch\\n\\nThis series of seminars provides insight into what life sciences are and what topics the University of Oslo and its collaborators are working on within life sciences. You will meet both established top researchers and young talents that through different approaches are working to gain new insight to solve societal challenges related to health and the environment. The seminars are a collaboration between faculties and departments, the Student Parliament, the Science Library and UiO:Life Science.",

            "description": "1) Anne Simonsen: Fighting disease through autophagy (self-eating)\n\nSimonsen will talk about autophagy – the process used for degradation and recycling of the cell's own components – shown to be important to avoid diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration and delay aging. How can new knowledge from autophagy research be used to treat such diseases and maybe delay aging? Autophagy was the topic for the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016.\n \n2) Håvard Haugen: Novel and innovative porous bioceramics – the next generation bone graft materials?\n\nHaugen will talk about how they try to develop new and innovative bone graft material using a material, titanium dioxide, that is not found in the body. Why does this material, which we normally know from sunscreen, white paint and toothpaste, function so well when placed in bone? The development of this innovating product has been given several EU grants the past years. www.biomaterials.no\n\n3) Alvaro Köhn-Luque: Mathematical and computational modeling in biomedical research: What is it good for?\n\nKöhn-Luque will give an introductory and inspirational talk about the use of mathematics and computing in biology and biomedicine. He will also share his main research interests about data integration in cancer and vascular biology using mathematical modeling and simulation."
